![]() Weinberg Gifted Academy teachers Kerri Zitar and Dana Hansen were nominated for the Mid-Career or Veteran Teacher Award by the Center for Recruitment and Retention of Mathematics Teachers (CRR) at the University of Arizona. We are incredibly proud of their commitment to one another, the program, and their love of reading.Ĭongratulations to Charli Irvin who won 3rd place in Plant Sciences - EL, Elementary Division (5th - 6th Grade) at the 2022 Hamilton Invitational Science and Engineering Fair (HISEF) for the project titled "The Beaning of Life." These four teams all scored a perfect score and earned their spots in tie-breaker rounds. Thirty-three schools completed in the district semifinals, the top nine schools competed for the top three spots that move on the regionals. This year, 231 teams with approximately 700 students participated in the Battle of the Books program. She hopes to inspire other kids to do the same.Ĭongratulations to Weinberg Gifted Academy's Battle of the Books team for taking third place in the district finale hosted by Chandler Public Library in April. Though Noa misses her long hair, she knows there are children who don't have any and would appreciate the donation. They are a non-profit that make wigs for children who don't have hair. When she was thinking of cutting her hair, her mom mentioned she could take a little more off (10 inches in all) and donate it to Locks of Love. Noa Joffe, 5th Grade Weinberg Gifted Academy, has been growing her hair and wearing it long for many years. She placed 2nd in putting and 5th overall! Way to go, Olvia! Keep up the hard work. Our students excel outside the classroom, as well! 6th grader Olivia Bracke recently competed in the state "Drive, Cip, and Putt" competition. The Copper Apple Award for Teaching is given to one K-12 teacher who has made outstanding contributions in fostering an interest in mathematics among students. The Copper Apple Award is the highest recognition awarded annually by the Arizona Association of Teachers of Mathematics to recognize excellence in mathematics education in Arizona.
